ANASTASIA ANTONACOS:

Anastasia Antonacos has given notable performances around the world as a solo recitalist and chamber musician.  She has played at venues such as Alice Tully Hall, Salle Cortot, Casa Orfeo, and Holland’s Alkmaar Conservatory, where she won the Audience Prize at the Holland Music Sessions.  She has also played in Greece, Russia, France, and Belgium, as well as various places in the U.S., including Washington D.C., where she testified for funding for the National Endowment for the Arts. Her solo CD, Colour Is the Keyboard, was produced by Grammy winner Bob Ludwig of Gateway Mastering.

As a solo artist, Ms. Antonacos has been hailed as “accurate, sensitive, indefatigable.” She is committed to presenting the music of under-represented and contemporary composers alongside traditional works. She is highly sought after as a collaborative pianist, and she specializes in coaching German art song, having studied with one of the great Lied pianists of the 20th century.

Annie is a founding member of the Portland Piano Trio and co-founding director of 240 Strings. She has made solo appearances with the Northshore Philharmonic Orchestra, the Midcoast Symphony Orchestra, the Portland Symphony Orchestra, and the Bangor Symphony Orchestra.  She has collaborated with violinists Joseph Silverstein, Schmuel Ashkenazy, and Jennifer Frautschi, as well as with members of the Vermeer, Cassatt, Portland and DaPonte Quartets.  

Dr. Antonacos has been on the faculty at the University of Southern Maine Osher School of Music since 2012. She holds a doctorate in piano performance from Indiana University in Bloomington, where she studied with Leonard Hokanson and coached with such esteemed artists as Martina Arroyo, Eugene Rousseau, Helga Winold, Miriam Fried, and Janos Starker. As a student, she also coached with John O’Conor, Ruth Laredo, and Christopher O’Riley. She was a member of the full-time piano faculty at Indiana University of Pennsylvania for two years.  She lives in Portland, where she was named one of the 100 Most Influential People of Portland by the Phoenix. She is a citizen of the US and Greece.
